- How much internet speed do I need for IPTV?
- For a single stream, plan on roughly 4 Mbps for HD, 7 Mbps for Full HD and around 22 Mbps for 4K, headroom included. Multiply by the number of devices watching at once. Use the calculator above for your exact combination.
- Why does the tool add 20% headroom?
- Live video bitrate is not perfectly flat — fast-moving scenes spike above the average, and your connection is rarely used by IPTV alone. Adding about 20% on top of the raw video total leaves room for those spikes and background traffic, so streams do not buffer at the worst moment.
- Does upload speed matter for IPTV?
- Almost never. IPTV is download-only for the viewer, so upload speed has little effect on playback. The exception is if you are also uploading at the same time (video calls, cloud backups), which can crowd the connection and cause buffering.
- I have plenty of speed but still buffer. Why?
- Raw speed is only part of the picture. Wi-Fi distance, a congested router, an overloaded provider server, or a weak device can all cause buffering even on a fast line. Our buffering fix generator walks through the usual causes for your setup.
- Is a wired connection better than Wi-Fi for IPTV?
- Usually, yes. Ethernet gives a steadier stream with less jitter, which matters most for 4K and for several simultaneous streams. If a wired run is not practical, put the device close to the router or use a strong mesh point.
